You can't feel whether a product is good while you're using it — you tell only when it goes unnoticed. A good product is quiet. It does its job, steps aside, makes you forget it's there.

Most people remember a product by its features. But what makes a product good isn't the visible part; it's the hundreds of small decisions made in the places no one stops to look. Get most of them wrong and the product still works — only no one can name the difference.

Wherever those decisions get made, that's the work. It can be a small app or a vast system; the scale changes, the attention doesn't.

What I write comes from the same place. About meaning, existence, and staying human in an age when everything is handed over to the machine.
